THE BAGGAGES IN SILENCE

June 7th 2020 - First Sunday

Topic: The baggage’s being silent

Scripture: Luke 4: 16-19.

Good morning family and all our viewers wherever you are watching from.

Here at GMCM, we are family. thank you for watching,. We are gradually coming back to church

Last week we had 5 churches coming together on Pentecost Sunday for worship and praising God

Feeling: it was not just a gathering to feel good but one to glorify God- thank Him in the midst of what is going on in the world. Praying for that upper room experience as stated in Acts 2.

We came together as one body in Christ: showing

-Unity

-Power in diversity

-That all we did was for Jesus and about Jesus

Our hearts go out to the families who have lost their loved ones: We have seen all The protest that are going on around the world. We pray that our God who is a God of Justice will intervene in the situation in the United States and around the world were the oppressed is looking for Justice.

-We will continue to pray as a Church for God’s justice to prevail. I get what is going- true I get it. I see pain even when I am not directly the victim.

-Our God is a God of justicePsalm 33.5 He loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord. We must do better as a human race.

This morning I want to talk on a sensitive topic that is affecting all of us.

-Our individual lives

-Homes

-Marriages

-Nations

-And the church and that is

SILENCE: The BAGGAGE IN SILENCE

“History will have to record that the greatest tragedy of this period of social transition was not the strident clamor of the bad people, but the appalling silence of the good people”. Martin Luther King, Jr.

We have heard many people say :

-there is power in silence.

-Or silence is golden.

-Breaking the silence.

-In dealing with this topic, I want to break it down into:

1.Action:Isaiah 48:3

2.Reaction: many times we react, when situations happen: James 1:19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger.

3.Response: we look for answers in our silence. So we look for

4.an audience because we want to cross

5.Crossing the bridge.

In Luke 4: 18-19 – Jesus announces that the reason for his anointing by God and the purpose for His mission in this world are one and the same

1.To proclaim- means: to announce officially or publicly say voice state declare communicate

a.Look at CEB and NLT versions of Luke 4:18-19

i.The spirit of The Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to:

1.The poor

2.Sent me to heal the brokenhearted, the oppressed

3.Verse 19and to proclaim the year of the lords favor.

Why did he mention this statement: there was;

1.Economic change that needed to be addressed

2.Social in justice that needed to be addressed

3.Political issues that needed to be addressed

But everyone was silent. WHY- because of fear- action that will turn into reaction maybe at that time.

This same situation happen in our daily lives.

-People go silent about a situation for many reasons but will mention a few:

oShame- they don’t want to talk about it because of the stigma. Rape, abuse- this happens with women all the time. What society will say

oFear: who will believe me. I will loose my job. I will loose my marriage, what will my children say. Fear of being appressed. So you stay silent and bear the pain.

oStayiny silent: is self abuse. The pain kills you slowly.

oJesus wants to release you today:1 Peter 5:10

-Good news to the poor- poor in Greek means- ptochois showing a class identity.

Because of class difference, the poor live in pain, the oppressed live in fear.

So Christ was anointed and made this pronouncement that the oppressed need to be free. He spoke about it, he related to what is going on.

So jesus knows your pain and he is with you. He does not want us to turn away from Him.

He has been waiting for families to cry onto him, nations to cry onto him.

Talking about a bad situation release you from your :

-Your pain

-Give you freedom.

When silence is not broken- triggers bring outrage and can be dangerous as we are seeing in our nation.

Silence is self abuse: your brain is in prison. John 10:10

Church silence: on not only things that are going on outside the church. But there are things that are hurting the Church:

-Trust- men of god cannot be trusted

-Things happen in church we take sides- God have mercy:so people go silent – and remain in pain

-We see home being broken- but we say it is well instead of saying you better put your acts together.

-We see people going through mental illness instead of us doing the right thing by praying and asking for professional help – we keep the silence or we discuss the issue and do nothing.

In fact, Jesus identified so much with the oppressed- Mathew 25:40 “ as you do it to the least of these , you have done it for me’ Mathew 25:40.

Our first audience is Jesus. Because he relates to your situation.

Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

-When no one is listening Jesus will listen- because he is a God of justice: Isaiah 30: 18 CEB

God is righteous in all His dealings with men, indeed in all His dealings. The righteousness of God and the justice of God aretop on His list.

-When no one is there to embrace you/ waiting for you even in your mistakes- just ask the women at the well.verse John 4: 5-8

-Jesus will be your audience in your pain and shame.

oHe will turn your shame to your message

oYour pain- to joy

When we look at the statements of Jesus, it was so strong.

In this same scripture : Luke 4:18-19

.

18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free,19 and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.

I want us to look at verse 19: the Lords favor.

-We need the intervention of Jesus

-And scriptures says- this is the time

-Anytime we are in a situation- the first step is Jesus.

-Let jesus be the one to brak the silence to. If the Church cant hear you, you have an audience that is bigger than the pastor.

Romans 12:19 Dear friends, never take revenge. Leave that to the righteous anger of God. For the Scriptures say, “I will take revenge; I will pay them back,” says the LORD.

Jesus is what we need. Speak to him now.

God bless
